There are only a few photographers that capture speed the way Aaron Brimhall does. Whether it's dangling out the back of a van or surfing his bike through the middle of the freeway, Aaron will do just about anything to get the shot. His gritty sweat-stained images have become legend, and his dynamic approach to adventure and photography have created a seriously powerful body of work. Always on the move and deep in the middle of the action, there's no telling what hell-raising journey he'll be headed out on next.
Hey Aaron, before we jump into it, we have to ask, cars or motorbikes?
This is going to be a hard one to answer. I cannot choose between either but if I was going to have to pick one probably cars just because I am in a car most of the time.
You worked on campaigns for brands like Mercedes, Lexus, Honda, or Aston Martin, but do you remember your first paid job as a photographer? What was your early photographic focus?
Yeah it was for a motorcycle lifestyle magazine "Iron & Air". Went to Indonesia for an assignment. It has been my all time favorite trip that I've ever done. Met a lot of really great people and saw things most people would never in their lifetime. Definitely grateful.
Both your commercial and personal projects are amazing, how do you compare the two, is the creative process similar?
I try to stick to my style as much as I can for both scenarios. I have a brand that represents me and I want people to notice that.
Do you have a career goal you haven't reached yet?
Goals that I have are learning lighting more, do more CGI, building my production house in SLC and just a few other personal goals I have.
Your work is full of speed and action, would you say it is a reflection of your personality or do you like to slow down in your free time?
I'd say it's a mirrored effect. Never have I been the one to slow down. I'll usually take sundays to lay low, but even then I get pretty restless.
Tell us about your day-to-day, how do you usually get where you need to be?
Well I have my amazing twin daughters that I get to tend to on the day to day. So I'll usually hang with them and my wife most of the day. But when I'm not doing that I'll usually be at the studio with the boys thinking of the next thing. If I'm not doing that, I'll be riding my dirt bike with the homies.
How does an electric bike fit your lifestyle?
Well, this is something I love. Because having girls and doing other things in the neighborhood with an electric bike is so satisfying. I can get to where I need to be so fast and the girls love it. I'll put the trailer hooked on to the back of the bike and cruise around for miles without getting winded at all. It's just a different experience that's so amazing.
What was the first thing you noticed about our bike when you saw it?
How easy it was to assemble. I've never come across something so easy to put together right out of the box, especially with a bike! This bike is so nicely designed too. It's a work of art.
